Mijn Klacht:
I visited the Chanel cosmetic stand in the Rdam store on 26 Dec at around 5pm. When I arrived there were one sales person, handling the payment of 1 client. I stood next to them quietly waiting. The sales lady went on and on talking with the previous customer for at least 10 minutes, chatting about something, without even acknowledging that I was there.
When the customer left, the sales lady didn’t even bother to look at me. I then greeted her and ask her for advice on color of the brow pencil. Without even thinking/looking at me, she pointed to one color and said ” This one is what I recommend to YOU ASIAN PEOPLE”. I told her I wasn’t sure about it, she coldly pointed me to the mirror and said “here is a mirror. you can try it yourself”. Then she quickly walked away.
At that point I started trying out the brow pencil on myself and also on my friend. We were having a laugh and that was when the sale lady walked back to us and scolded “what are you doing”. I told her that I have made my choice and she went to retrieve the product for me, without any further communication.
I felt very unwelcomed at her store. It is the cold and condescending attitude as if we (my friend and I) are not even worthy of shopping here, or worthy of her time. The ways she attended to a Dutch customer and me (an ‘Asian people’, according to her) have such drastic contrast and I was willing to bet there is clear discrimination on her part. At least this was the way we felt.
For a giant department store like the Bijenkorf, this is NOT ok. For more than 5 years I have enjoyed the pleasant shopping experience at Bijenkorf that this singular trip was such a shocker to me.
Gewenste Oplossing:
I would be satisfied when Bijenkorf provides me with a satisfactory response that shows they take my complaint seriously.
If they are going to offer me some poor excuses I'd be rather disappointed.
