Een klant heeft een klacht ingediend over een onverwachte brandstoftoeslag van 3,90 euro die door UPS in rekening werd gebracht na het verzenden van een pakket. De klant was oorspronkelijk aangetrokken door een aanbieding van 4 euro op de website, maar na betaling van 7 euro ontving hij later een factuur voor de extra toeslag. De klant voelt zich misleid door de prijsstelling van UPS.

Mijn Klacht:

You are cheeting your clients! I wanted to use Kiala service when i was redirected to UPS website. It turned out UPS took over Kiala. On the website was offer 4 euro for sending a package which was comparable to Kiala prices. I thought I’ll give a try. After filling in all fields I got the final(?) price for about 7 euro which was almost the same for sending with postnl and I had already all filled in I decided to send with UPS. So I paid about 7 euro with ideal for the label, I sent the package, received confirmation about delivery and though everything was ok. What was my surprise to receive 2 weeks later by post “factuur correctie” for 3,90 euro from UPS! Yes, according UPS I have to pay them 3,90 euro extra as “toeslag voor brandstof”! Well, if I would know that sending with UPS costs me more than 10 euro I would not choose them. I have the feeling that this information, maybe added somewere with mini letters in the conditions, was hidden with purpose to trick people like me. It gives me very bad feeling about UPS and unclear practics they used. You may thought 3,90 is not much, just pay it. Yes, Im angry to waist my time on typing this complaint, but it is about the principles! I saw complaints from other people about exactly the same UPS practics. In example If they send this facture for 3,90 euro to 20.000 people and 18.000 pays, UPS gets 70.200 euro in the pocket! People, dont pay it!

Gewenste Oplossing:

With cancelling this unjustified facture.

Geboden Oplossing:

Dear customer,

A KIALA shipment is now called a UPS Access Point Economy Shipment and is a Service which is shipped from a UPS Access Point to a UPS Access Point. The easiest way to create such a label is by using below link :

The label you created is a shipping label with the normal Standard shipping service which can be delivered to any address. In your case you did not address the shipment to a UPS Access Point, but you had it shipped directly to the consignee address. A this was a Residential address you were charged afterwards with the Residential surcharge which is mentioned on the website :

Total Charges for Residential Adjustments EUR 3,22

To be clear this is not a fuel surcharge or anything, but just the surcharge for a Residential delivery.

The UPS Access Point Economy Service ( Access Point to Access Point ) has no surcharges and you just pay the 4,07 euros a mentioned on our website. You will find the different services explained via below link :

Therefore I have to conclude that this invoice is correct as this package was shipped to and delivered to a Residential address.

Dear UPS Social Media Team,

Checking the price for shipping on UPS website https://www.ups.com/uaps/create?loc=nl_NL
I filled in all desired options, including shipping directly to the consignee address, and I received final price 6,48 euro, and this I paid for the label.

Once more, option for shipping directly to the consignee address was already included in price request on UPS website. It was 6,48 euro and I paid it.

I dont see any reason to pay 3,90 euro additional.
